Dining
There are a lot of places to dine on and off campus.
On-Campus[edit | edit source]
Dining Halls[edit | edit source]
The general saying goes, "the further away from McConnell, the better the food". (with the exception of Kitchen West; just speaking frankly)
- Bruce Hall (Bruceteria) - a 15 second sprint from McConnell
- West Hall - a 5 minute walk from McConnell
- Eagle Landing - a 9 minute walk from McConnell
- Maple Hall (Mean Greens) - a 7 minute walk from McConnell
- Victory Hall (Champs) - a 30 minute walk from McConnell (one can also take the bus).
Of course, there also exists a "perk grill" and a "perk market" at the Discovery Park. Meal plans unfortunately don't apply there, but the grill cheese and chicken quesadilla will not disappoint you.
Retail Restaurants[edit | edit source]
Retail restaurants take flex, a currency solely used at on-campus retail restaurants. These can be found at the Union.
- Corner Store
- Which Wich
- Scrappy's Ice Cream
- usually will ring up mocha milkshakes as chocolate milkshakes, saves $1. only for the most morally bankrupt.
- Fast food
- Chick-Fil-A
- Burger King
- Krispy Krunchy Chicken
- Fuzzy's Tacos
- Slightly more fancy things
- Avesta Restaurant
- Jamba Juice
- Starbucks
- Campus Chat Food Court
- Deli
- Chopt
- Mia's Pizza
- splitting a large pizza between 2 is more value than 2 personals
- Sauté
- the chicken alfredo is gas
- Sushi
- Flattop Grill
Off-Campus[edit | edit source]
Denton Square[edit | edit source]
Denton Square has a lot of nice restaurants for students to visit. Flex cannot be used at these restaurants. Some favorites/notable restaurants include:
- LSA Burger
- Beth Marie's
- Homemade ice cream. Due to its high quality, TAMS students in the past have nicknamed the small shop "Best Marie's."
- Back Dough
- Doughnuts made from leftover Queenie's Steakhouse bread dough. Usually opens at 11PM on Saturdays and Sundays.
- Highly recommend going at least once! They only take cash and one (big) donut is $5
- Thai Square
- Cartwright's Ranch House
Fry Street[edit | edit source]
Fry Street is located north-east of McConnell Hall. This area is full of restaurants and bars. Due to the latter, Fry Street becomes off-limits after 9PM. Some favorites/notable restaurants include:
- Chipotle
- Insomnia Cookies
- One (1) free cookie on Halloween if you wear a costume or May 1st (2019) if you presented a college/TAMS acceptance letter
- Aura Coffee
- A nice study café close to campus. The coffee? Maybe not so nice, but that's up to you to decide.
- Crooked Crust
- Cool Beans
- Slap Burger
- Recently opened up (Fall 2022). Really good but the cholesterol is going straight to your arteries.
Razor Ranch/University Drive[edit | edit source]
Razor Ranch is the place to go if you're craving boba. Because this plaza is rather far from the main UNT campus, students need a vehicle (AKA leeching off seniors with cars or gathering a group of five to use a TAMS Van) to travel to this sacred place.
Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]
There are some nearby restaurants not on Fry street or in Denton Square. Some favorites/notable restaurants include:
- The Taste
- Korean food. Not as good as Carrollton but passable. Located near West Dining Hall (on the west side of campus).
- Oriental Garden (OG)
- Amazing Thai food. A cute little restaurant just outside UNT campus to the north, next to Jack-in-the-Box and across the street from CVS.
- Hanabi Ramen
- Industrial-style place with blonde-wood seating for a variety of ramen, along with Japanese dishes. Slightly farther away from campus, near Denton Square.
- Jack-in-the-Box
- Across the street from CVS, next to Oriental Garden. Looked pretty rundown during Summer O 2019.
- 3 Aguilas Taqueria
- Seemingly sussy taqueria in a gas station but hey, the grande loco burrito is only $8.75 during these inflationary times ... It's gas though - James.
