We are FRC Team 5212, the TAMSformers! This is our 10th year competing in the FIRST Robotics Competition. EVERYONE IS WELCOME, with or without experience. We will dedicate the first semester to teaching you guys all about robotics and the engineering process. Everything from mechanical to electrical to programming, we got you covered. We will compete in FIRST in the spring. Even if robotics isn't your thing, you can still be apart of our team. In fact, we NEED you! We have a business and marketing portion in charge of writing award submissions, looking for grants and sponsors, taking photos and videos, and managing our social media. We will also be mentoring various FLL (FIRST Lego League) teams in the Denton area, will be reaching out to help other teams nearby, and working alongside the other sectors of JETS in multiple other volunteering projects.

FIRST Robotics Competition[edit | edit source]

FIRST Robotics Competition is an intense competition for high school students as they build industrial-size robots to complete a challenge and advocate STEM in their communities

BEST Robotics[edit | edit source]

In 2019-2020, the team decided to stop competing in BEST Robotics and focus solely on FRC.

Sectors[edit | edit source]

Robotics splits up the work into Sectors. Each sector focuses on a specific aspect of the FRC competition. Students can participate in as many or as few sectors as they want.

(Someone please change the sector descriptions into paragraphs, not lists)

Strategy[edit | edit source]

  • Decide which goals to accomplish and choose between designs

Design[edit | edit source]

  • Involves Onshape, an web-based CAD(Computer Aided Design) software
  • Modeling, assemblies, drafting, simulation. CAM
  • Create custom parts
  • Interlinked with engineering

Engineering[edit | edit source]

  • Learn about power tools and basic building practices
  • Learn how to create custom parts through machining software like CNC, Laser cut, and 3d printing.
  • Learn how to make different robotic mechanisms & basic engineering physics

Electrical[edit | edit source]

  • Hand-in-hand with programming and engineering
  • Learn circuit design, soldering, and basic wire management

Programming[edit | edit source]

  • C++ for the FRC WPILib Suite

The 2024 FRC Reefscape Team had FRC Championships in their sights. The team has created new teaching material for workshops and training for all members, regardless of experience.

2023[edit | edit source]

The team is planning to do the challenge in the spring, and are conducting workshops and training to prepare for the season.

Competed in STEM Gals and NTX Tournament of Robots

Finalist at Waco and Dallas District Competitions

Qualified and competed in Houston District Championships

Partnered with Strickland Middle school and taught STEM/Engineering concepts

2022[edit | edit source]

The team did the Rapid React challenge at FIT Irving and FIT Waco.

2021[edit | edit source]

Currently, there is no plans for in-person events.

2020[edit | edit source]

Although COVID-19 cancelled most FRC/FIRST events during 2020, our team competed at the first two events, and the only two events ever, held during this season. At our first event, FIT Plano, we ranked 18th with a record of 5-9-0. At our second event, FIT Greenville, we ranked 28th with a record of 3-8-1.
