Edward Requenez

Education(s) Stanford - BA, Music with concentration in vocal performance (1998-2003), Columbia - MD (2008)
Occupation Chief of Staff at Rio Grande Regional Hospital, Anesthesiologist at Rio Grande Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Consultants, Recruiting Chair at TAMS Alumni Association

Edward Requenez grew up in the Rio Grande Valley before arriving at TAMS as a member of the Class of 1998 and joining the Ambassadors, Judicial Board, and JETS. He suspects he may have been a member of other clubs, but alleges those memberships were the result of identity theft or involved some emotional trauma that he continues to suppress.

After TAMS, he attended Stanford University where he majored in music with a concentration in vocal performance and minored in computer science. Shortly before his Stanford graduation, he abandoned plans to attend the Boston Conservatory for graduate studies in voice and instead applied to medical school. He spent that year as an MCAT lecturer for the Princeton Review while also performing in an Equity production of the musical Forever Plaid. In retrospect, he wishes he had gone to the gym more.

Dr. Requenez attended medical school on scholarship at Columbia University's College of Physicians & Surgeons. He then completed a residency in anesthesiology followed by a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at the Columbia University hospitals New York Presbyterian Hospital and The Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of New York. While still in residency, he received the Traveling Fellowship Award, an award given jointly by Health Volunteers Overseas and the Society for Education in Anesthesia which he used to teach anesthesiology in Peru. He continues to serve HVO as a project director and medical education missionary. He also volunteers with Heart Care International to provide anesthesia and critical care to children undergoing open heart surgeries in South America. After completion of his medical training, Dr. Requenez returned to the Rio Grande Valley where he lives happily with the love of his life, Vanessa, and their two future TAMSters, Mateo (almost 3) and Daphne (almost 1). He is the Anesthesiologist-in-Chief at Rio Grande Regional Hospital.

Since Requenez's recognition as a distinguished alumnus, he has become the Chief of Staff at Rio Grande Regional Hospital.
