Refugees often are fleeing from persecution or death and they do not know how long it will be till they see their family or loved ones again. In the late 1970’s, Catholic Charities Dallas (CCD) resettled refugees that were operating under the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) contract with the federal government. This committee will help the refugees by tabling for fundraisers, organizing drives for the refugees and preparing care packages. | Refugees often are fleeing from persecution or death and they do not know how long it will be till they see their family or loved ones again. The Fellowship for the Advancement of Cultural Education of Students (FACES) is a multicultural club at UNT whose mission is to unite people by embracing cultural diversity as well as through realizing and respecting different perspectives. We work with various organizations along with TAMS, such as the Heart House in Dallas and an international micro-loans initiative, to foster these global connections. We also host cultural celebrations for the TAMS community so that students can experience the different cultures surrounding them.
Events
FACES's largest event is Worldfest, an annual campus-wide charity event.
Committees
Every Student Learns (FACES X TAS)
Through FACES and TAS, ESL is dedicated to helping young students learn English. We primarily work with Chinese and Spanish students, and we teach basic English grammar, spelling, and reading comprehension.

PenPals is a committee under FACES that is dedicated to connecting students of various cultures, educational backgrounds and ethnicities from around the world! This year, we hope to connect TAMS students to those in Korea, as well as other schools worldwide via email and/or postcard. As a project dedicated to improving our understanding of other lifestyles around the world, we are excited to build new connections and foster new relations with students just like us worldwide!

TAMS Masala
TAMS Masala draws inspiration from Penn Masala. Penn Masala is an American a cappella group. Penn Masala's music has been influenced by the Eastern and Western cultures that represent the group's membership. TAMS Masala would perform a blend of Hindi and English music with multiple singers. We would have different groups of singers in soprano, tenor and baritone. Additionally, new songs not composed by Penn Masala could be proposed and composed. Similar to Docked Bhangra, the a capella group could perform at TAMS fundraisers.

Heart House
Heart House is a nonprofit in Dallas, TX that strives to “provide safety, education, and opportunity to refugees and underprivileged students” by offering tutoring services, social-emotional workshops, and enjoyable activities such as field trips and Science Week in November. As TAMS volunteers, we hope to make an impact in the lives of these children by attending after-school sessions and participating in special events held by the organization.
