TAMS Academic Society (formerly Teach & Learn) is dedicated towards fostering an environment in which individuals are able to thrive academically through the use of our peer tutoring system and academic committees. We also focus on giving back to those who need it most in our surrounding community of North Texas through our variety of education-based volunteering committees such as tutoring ESL students and working with specialists to help children in the Autism community. Additionally, we aim to create an impact globally through She's the First, an international nonprofit dedicated towards funding the education of female scholars in low-income countries. Furthermore, we offer opportunities for students to challenge themselves academically through a variety of academic competitions such as academic decathlon and various humanities focused programs.

Committees

Teens Tutor Teens

Teens Tutor Teens is a certified 501(c) 3 non-profit and is designed to connect teens with other teens globally and provide services to better aid the community. We do this through writing articles and books, making videos on-demand, tutoring 1:1 and groups, as well as mentoring other teens. All these services are free-of-charge and are provided on the very want of each tutor to aid his or her community.

High School Tutoring (TAS X HOPE)

HST is a HOPExTAS committee focused on helping local Denton high school students with STEM-related curriculum. TAMS volunteers will each be paired with a student from one of these high schools and will work with them on whatever academic help they need. If you enjoy teaching or want to try out the experience, High School Tutoring is the committee for you.

Competitions Committee

Academic competitions are an important part of the TAMS experience, and in order to get the most out of these competitions, TAS's Competitions Committee helps students learn beyond the classroom by hosting review sessions, compiling resources, and helping students get to know various competition formats. Our committee heads are dedicated to helping each and every student excel and win awards at competitions about any subject. This year, the Committee heads plan on helping students prepare for the USA Biology Olympiad (USABO), USA Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO), history competitions, and literature competitions.
